L'Avenue Dubai: Paris Vibes, With the Fountain Out Front
Rating:
Before You Book
The Occasion
A long dinner with no plans after. It's relaxed and comfortable, with a terrace if you want the Burj and the fountain right in front of you. This is the evening where dinner is the whole plan and you've nowhere to be when it ends. What I Ordered
The crab salad (195 AED), the truffle pizza (210 AED), the Tom Yam chili sea bass (265 AED), and a mocktail from the no-alcohol list. The Weak Link
The truffle pizza (210 AED). The truffle on top is generous, but the pizza was a little dry and I felt it needed more cheese, more mozzarella. It's also small for the price. Not a dealbreaker, just the one plate that didn't earn its price.Skip
The crab salad (195 AED). Nothing special. Lettuce, avocado and crab are all delicate flavours, and it needed a dressing or something with more punch to lift it. Flat for the money.Order Again
The Tom Yam chili sea bass (265 AED). The menu calls it very spicy, but I love heat and to me it was perfect. This is the dish I'd come back for, and the one I'd build the whole meal around. The Return Question
Yes. The fountain and Burj Khalifa view and the warm, helpful service are reason enough on their own, and I'd come back to try the dessert and some of their other dishes..Good to Know
L'Avenue is the Costes name brought to Dubai, the same family behind the original on Avenue Montaigne in Paris, and it sits on the second floor of Fashion Avenue inside Dubai Mall. The view is the main reason to come: the windows look straight onto the Dubai Fountain, with the Burj Khalifa lit up behind it, so you can enjoy the fountain show while you wait for the next dish. The staff were welcoming too, and took the time to walk me through every dish, which I really appreciated. The Interiors
The restaurant is truly elegant: a big sculptural chandelier, deep velvet bench seating, white tablecloths, and soft candlelight, classic old-Paris glamour rather than anything minimal. It's also a good place to escape the Dubai summer, properly cool and comfortable, the kind of room you can sit in for hours with the AC doing its job while it's 45 degrees outside. What I Ordered
My favourite dish, by far, was the Tom Yam chili sea bass (265 AED). The fish was soft and perfectly cooked in a fragrant, coral-coloured broth. The menu warns that it's very spicy, but I love heat and for me it was just right. If you're not into spicy food, you can simply ask them to hold back on the chili, they'll do it on request.
The one that let me down was the truffle pizza (210 AED). The crust itself is delicious, and you can tell it came out of a proper oven, and the black truffle on top is generous. But the pizza was a little dry, and I felt it needed more cheese, more mozzarella to bring it together. It's also small for 210 AED.
The crab salad (195 AED) is the one I'd skip. It wasn't bad, just plain, and because lettuce, avocado and crab are all soft, delicate flavours, it really needed a dressing or a hit of acidity to pull it together. For 195 AED, I expected more.
I didn't get to dessert this time. A few on the menu caught my eye, an indécent profiterole, an apple tart to share, a lemon meringue, but I'm not going to review something I didn't taste. Maybe next time. The Drinks
There's no alcohol at L'Avenue, since it's inside the mall, but the no-alcohol drinks are better than most. There are proper mocktails at around 58 to 62 AED, a Negroni 0.0, and alcohol-free Vintense wines by the glass at 48 AED. As a pescatarian who rarely drinks alcohol, I notice when a place takes this side of the menu seriously, and L'Avenue does.Who It's For
Come for a slow, dressed-up dinner where the view and the room are as much of the draw as the food. It works especially well if you don't drink: the no-alcohol list is good enough that you get a proper drink, not just a glass of juice with syrup. It's less suited to a quiet, private conversation, since it sits in the middle of a busy mall, and it isn't a cheap night out. Book a table on the fountain side, order the sea bass, and treat the truffle pizza as optional.Reviewed in june 2026
